Paediatric Endocrinology

It is a branch of endocrinology that deals with endocrine disorders that occur in children. 

Common Disorders:

  1. Growth disorders (Short stature)
  2. Pubertal disorders (Early/ Delayed)
  3. Childhood obesity
  4. Type 1 diabetes
  5. Thyroid problems
  6. Rickets

Growth Disorders:

Normal growth of a child is a complex interplay of genetics, nutrition and hormones like growth hormone and thyroid. Disorders relating to any of these can affect the growth of your child.

Common disorders that lead to short stature are hypothyroidism, Constitutional Delay in Growth and Puberty and Growth Hormone Deficiency. 

Short Stature

Pubertal disorders (Early/ Precocious or Delayed)

Disorders of puberty can profoundly impact physical (growth) and psychosocial well-being. 

Precocious puberty is pubertal onset before eight years of age in girls and before nine years of age in boys. 

Delayed puberty is the absence of breast development in girls by 13 years of age and absence of testicular growth to at least 4 mL in volume or 2.5 cm in length in boys by 14 years of age.
